 Middle States Accreditation

Indian River High School is beginning the accreditation process through the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools.  Our last self-study was completed in May 2001 and will expire in May 2011.  This is a long and very involved process by the entire school community and we are seeking your help.
To be accredited by the Commission on Secondary Schools, a school must meet the Middle States Association’s standards for each major area of a school’s work and activity.  These areas include the school’s philosophy/mission/beliefs/objectives, governance and leadership, organizational design and staff, educational programs, learning media services and technology, student services, student life and activities, facilities, health and safety, finances, assessment of student learning, and planning.  Because we chose to use the Reflections on Standards of Quality protocol for accreditation, our school is required to do more than meet the Commission’s Standards to be accredited.
The Reflections on Standards of Quality are an accreditation process that requires a school to establish and implement a ten-year cyclical improvement plan based upon its determination of both the present and future needs of the students.  The school must develop an improvement plan that includes three to five objectives, two of which must be focused on student performance.  At the end of the five-year period, a review committee will visit the school to determine the progress toward achieving the goals and to review the school’s new objectives for school improvement for the next five year cycle.
To begin the year of self-study prior to next spring’s visitation by the committee, our school must complete a very thorough self-study.  To begin the self-study, we will be conducting surveys for students, parents, and staff.  The data collected during the survey will be analyzed by our school committees and used to determine our school’s rating in the standards areas.  Your help in completing the survey would be greatly appreciated and would help us evaluate our school.  It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete the survey.  To complete the appropriate survey click on the links provided below:
