Thirteen students from Indian RiverHigh School have qualified for the Business Professionals of America 2007 National Leadership Conference in New York City on May 9-13.
Students Devon Beck, Taryn Buck, Lindsey Brasure, Art Davidson, Kate Hickman, Anna Jurusik, Ian Langeheine, Cara Morris, Kara Roach, Josh Sweetman, Perry Townsend, Kim Tran and Kyle Tribbitt will join more than 6,000 conference delegates from across the country at the national conference. They will participate in business skills competitions, workshops and national officer candidate campaigns and elections. The theme of this year’s national conference is “Destination Success.”
The 13 students earned invitations to the national conference by placing near the top of their events at the Delaware BPA Leadership Conference in Dover on February 22-23. Results are as follows: :

Overall, Indian RiverHigh School had 28 individuals and teams place in the Top 10 of their respective events at the state leadership conference.
Buck was also elected secretary of the Delaware Association of Business Professionals of America for the 2007-2008 school year.
“The national conference will be the culmination of a school year’s worth of business workforce education and training, which members of the local chapter of Business Professionals of America at IRHS have received,” BPA Chapter Advisor Bennett Murray said. “We are extremely proud of every student who participated in the state leadership conference. Their hard work has made our school proud.”
Business Professionals of America is a national organization for middle school, high school and college students preparing for careers in business occupations. Theorganization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through the application of skills learned at school. Business Professional of America acts as a cohesive agent in the nationwide networking of education and business industry and is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academics and technological skills.
