Honors Physical Science Summer Work 2010

 Dear Honors Physical Science Student:

Welcome to Indian Riverl High School and Physical Science.   It is my hope that you will discover how interesting chemistry, physics and earth science can be.  I have high expectations for each of you and look forward to working with you next year.

Honors Physical Science is designed for those students that have a strong interest in academic subjects, especially science.  You will be expected to turn in all homework assignments on time and prepare thoroughly for tests.   We will be doing lab work which requires careful analysis.   Learning lab skills and data analysis are critical skills for high school students.  We will use a variety of math techniques during the year and assume all honors students have already completed a full year of algebra.

The summer work required this year consists of three parts.  The first part is a one page essay describing your favorite area of science and what you find interesting about it.  You may choose any topic from the news, new research, medicine, environmental science or any other area of science that is of interest to you.  If you’re having a difficult time choosing a favorite just tell me about your favorite science activity from Middle School.

The second part is two math concepts.  You should alredy be familiar with one of them.  Read Dimensional Analysis carefully and do your best.

The third part of the summer work requires you to begin working on developing an idea for a science fair project.  The attached pages are part of a power point presentation that we will review the first week of school.  The first three sections of your science fair project (title, category and background research) are due by Friday of the first week of school along with the paragraph described above and the math worksheets.

You may contact me by email with any questions you have with the summer work but realize that I check my school email only once a week during July.  The address is:  This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .

So, I hope you work honestly through the assignments and turn in your very best work in September.  In the meantime have a great summer vacation.

 Mrs. Kimmel
