Indian River High School sponsors two blood drives during each school year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Anyone, including students, over the age of 17 is permitted to donate blood as long as they meet certain criteria. Indian River High School has been sponsoring blood drives for the Blood Bank of Delmarva since 1993. During the 1998/1999 school year, Indian River received a plaque from the Blood Bank for having the largest increase in donors in Sussex County, 41 donors. During the 2000/2001 school year, we increased the number of drives from one each year to two and then were honored with a trophy from the Blood Bank for having the largest number of blood donors of any high school in Sussex County, 77 donors. Again during the 2001/2002 school year, IRHS was honored with a trophy for having the largest number of donors of any high school in Sussex County, 84 donors. Since then we have been coming in third, we are trying to get our trophy back by including people from the community. Everyone and anyone is invited to participate by signing up and donating blood on December 6, 2006 and March 7, 2007. If you would like to donate, please call the school nurse at 732-3194.
